Offering a vibrant student community, the University of Northampton enables students to have an exciting social life whilst providing a supportive environment for their studies through student support. Strengthening the support available for students is a wide range of information, advice and guidance provided by student services and an equally wide range of services and facilities, ensuring students always have their educational and social requirements catered for.
One such example of the way a student’s life is catered for both socially and academically is through The Students’ Union, an organisation invested in making a student’s time at the University a positive one. Visit The Students’ Union website for further information.
In addition, there are a wealth of clubs and free sports woven in to the very fabric of the University, including activities such as archery, basketball, boxing, Judo, rugby, swimming and tennis. Northampton is home to several top sports teams, with regular football, rugby and cricket matches taking place near to the University. With more than 30 gyms, health clubs and leisure centres in the area, all needs and budgets are catered for.
There are also a variety of societies including the Afro-Caribbean Society, Amateur Dramatics and various societies supporting faith interests, academic topics, politics, skiing and snowboarding all the way through to cheese appreciation. If you’re looking for something different you won’t be disappointed.
Whilst it’s generally understood that university is all about providing students with the foundations for success in potential careers and interests beyond university, the University of Northampton provides opportunities during a student’s stay at the University too, continually allowing people to make new friends, network, try new things and continue hobbies.
Enterprise is a key part of the student experience at the University of Northampton. Being a member of The Enterprise Club bring many benefits including advice on your business, mentoring, business skills training, entrepreneur networking and a variety of funding opportunities. If you have an idea and the motivation to succeed, The Enterprise Club can set you on the path to success. All students are given the opportunity to work in a social enterprise as a paid employee, volunteer or through a work placement. These opportunities enable students to earn money, apply their skills to benefit regional social enterprises and significantly enhance their employability. Support mechanisms are in place for all who are interested in getting involved with social enterprise not just including students and staff but also businesses and the wider community. The University has a range of resources, advice and guidance for anyone looking to get more involved or even set up their own social enterprise. In 2013 (two full years ahead of schedule) Ashoka U, the world’s leading network of social entrepreneurs, awarded the University of Northampton the international accolade of ‘Changemaker Campus’, in recognition of our commitment to social enterprise and the excellence of the opportunities this commitment gives to our students. Visit the business and enterprise pages for further information.
